[ It's the day before Christmas when the weather takes a turn. They're too far outside Jackson to chance it, went out in a radius with other parties to bring in as much food as they could find. More and more people have been joining up with the once-small colony, and the stores are...lean, to say the least. Tommy and Maria had done everything they could to keep everyone reasonably fed, to make their supplies last for as long as they could, but it'd gotten to the point where they'd had to get together some of the more capable teams to head out past their normal limits.
"I wanna see each and every one of you back here for Christmas morning," Tommy had instructed a few days earlier, lip twitching upward with at least a hint of amusement. "I've got something good for the holidays. I think we all deserve t'celebrate a job well done. 'Nother year behind us."
It doesn't seem as if they'd be there for the big reveal, though. Now, Ellie shivers and shrinks down a little into her coat, ducking behind the head of her mare as it shifts through the snow banks and back into town. Wherever this is, its name - the one once etched on a wooden sign by the road - has been lost to the elements. Fortunately, it'd been close enough to take refuge when the wind and the cold really started to bite, but... ]
Fuckin'...come on... [ The frustrated breath is visible as she grumbles, and she chances a peek further upward into the air to try and spot her companion. Joel, having been momentarily (she hopes) separated in the continuing whiteout, isn't within immediate view.
Great. He'll be able to find her tracks easily enough, but...well. That could be an issue, if there are any other hungry groups in the area. If there are other groups in the area who're worse than hungry.
Ellie curses softly and urges her horse on, eenie-meenie-miney-mo choosing one of the ranchers and heading for its small, attached garage. Even if there're no signs of him in this one, Joel would have to come across this same little town, and she can head out to look for him after squirreling away her meager findings from the day... ]
